Work Wear for the Curvy Woman

Dressing for work can be tricky for anyone, regardless of your body shape.
It’s common that companies have their employees adhere to a dress code of some sorts, just to ensure the professionalism of the particular business. Whether it be business casual or formal, it’s likely that we’ll all have to abide by an employer’s dress code at some point in time.
Dressing professionally not only shows your employer that you care about your position, it shows your clients and co-workers that you care and are serious about your job. And, let’s be honest…who doesn’t feel a boost in confidence when you put on your power blazer and heels?!
With some inspiration from our favorite curvy blogger, The Curvy Fashionista, we’ve got some tips for you to make sure you’re always looking poised and polished at work.
TOPS
Going the conservative route is always the way to go when it comes to office attire. Always limit the amount of cleavage you show.
Make sure your tops fit properly around your bust, and that you never show any midriff. The crop top trend should definitely be one that stays out of the office.
PANTS
The number one rule of thumb here, leggings are NOT pants, especially for the workplace. Your pants for work shouldn’t swallow you, but should fit appropriately.
It’s also important to make sure that your pants don’t look like you just pulled them out of the wash without any ironing. Pressing your slacks really doesn’t take that much time!
If your pants are dragging the floor, even when you’re wearing high heels, you must find a seamstress — immediately! That’s another one of those things, like wrinkles, that will make you look unprofessional.
SKIRTS & DRESSES
The length of your skirt or dress should always be to your fingertips or lower, never shorter.
Also, make sure that your dress or skirt isn’t too tight for work. Pieces like that can easily slide up, which is definitely not office appropriate!
SHOES
Some places have a closed toe shoe policy, while some aren’t as strict. Regardless, comfort is key for the office.
If you prefer heels, make sure you keep a pair of flats in your bag or at your desk. You never know what might be on your agenda, so keeping an extra pair handy can save you the pain.
HOSIERY
Not everyone is a huge fan of hosiery and tights, but in the professional world, it’s something that has become a necessity. Most employers now encourage women not to go bare-legged when wearing a dress or skirt.
And nowadays, tights and hosiery aren’t just your typical nude or black pair from the drugstore. Fun colors and prints, that can also be appropriate for the workplace, are now available!
We hope this helped you out and gave you some encouragement to revamp your workwear!
We have a lot of great pieces that are workplace appropriate, including some longer dresses and skirts. Stop in this week and let us help you look and feel your best at work.
Have a great week!

Bending the Rules

Today, with a little inspiration from The Curvy Fashionista, we’re updating you on some rules of fashion that you curvy girls might not need to follow anymore.

Wearing Black is Slimming

We’ve all been living by this rule for years, but it’s time to step out of your comfort zone. Add some color and pattern to your wardrobe for spring and summer, and be confident in the pieces you choose.

While black is chic and a safe bet, it’s important to show off your personality through your clothes. If you don’t want to step too far out of your boundaries, try some bold accessories.

Covering Up is Better

You don’t always have to be covered head-to-toe. In these upcoming warmer months, show off your arms and legs. Shorter shorts and dresses are great ways to show off some more skin without being too revealing.

Avoid Pieces that Show Off your Curves

Don’t hide behind over-sized clothing anymore! Step out and buy some pieces that show off your curves. Whenever you’re getting fancy for a special occasion, look for a great dress that hugs you in all the right places.

While it may be a bit scary and intimidating at first, stepping out of your comfort zone might be the best thing for you!

Stop by Be. Ella this week to find out what rules you can break.

Have a great week!
